Kayla DeWitt
Kayla Rose DeWitt lives in New York City where she ministers at Brooklyn College as a campus missionary. She facilitates Bible studies, formation talks and walks alongside students in personal accompaniment in Christ. She does this with her fiancé, Alex Ocasio, and is planning to get married within a year!
Our Mission
Kayla is excited to be on mission and serve college students who are seeking and in need of the love of Christ. Her goal is to embrace and exude the kindness and mercy that Jesus revealed in Matthew 9:36: “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”
Our Experience
Kayla has been involved in ministry at Brooklyn College since 2023. She and Alex would lead and organize events as student leaders. In 2025 she took on a more active role as the President of their campus ministry. She began to lead small group discussions and events, and personal accompaniment with students. She fell in love with the role and through this, God called her to begin laboring with Emmaus Journey. She also continues to serve throughout the diocese of Brooklyn and Queens and Archdiocese of New York, partnering with St. Paul Street Evangelism, youth groups, and the Diocesan Youth Council.
Our Methods
In John 15:15, Jesus teaches us, “No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.”
In a similar way, we must be friends with one another. That is why our ministry, at its core, is relational. During college, many students experience a deep need and desire for belonging. We get to know them as individuals in the life experience they share. From this place, we invite them to encounter Jesus. We pair this alongside catechesis, offering students accessibility to know and defend their faith. In addition to this, we provide students with opportunities and tools to build key skills necessary for building up the life of the Church in and outside of the college environment. Our ultimate goal is for them to graduate as on fire disciples for Jesus equipped to spread His love in their own home parishes.
How Can I Help?
Living mission, we get the honor and privilege of living according to God’s providence, as St. Paul reminds us in Philippians: “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
Not only does the Lord supply our needs through the work of generous mission partners, but you can also rely on Him to grant your needs and reward you for your generosity. Through your prayers and financial support, we invite you to participate in the advancement of the Kingdom of God by enabling us to seek those “sheep who are without a shepherd” by making us radically available for those we are called to serve.
The Christian life is meant to be lived in community. Our ministry cannot be done alone. Please join us in this vital mission by being part of our mission support team! In doing so, your dollar amount will be reaping eternal benefits and will be serving evangelistic purposes. We are grateful for your prayers and support!
